A Word From Karen

The new year is a time to re-evaluate your life. You review where you’ve been and where you want to go, who you want to be. While you are taking stock, aim to incorporate a few new attitudes from a social scientist from In a Nutshell. Keep going to read about the deceptiveness of e-mails.

For me, New Year’s Day is time to take down the Christmas decorations, eat some leftovers from the party the night before and relax. Once Christmas is cleared away, you can brighten your January with National Hugging Day and Compliment Day. Share your affection for someone with a squeeze on Jan. 21, then say something nice to at least five people on Jan. 24.

With Barack Obama in the White House, the celebration of Martin Luther King Day (Jan. 19) takes on special significance this year. King’s dreams are coming true in ways he could not have foreseen.

Chinese New Year - Dragon 1.wmfJan. 26 starts the year 4706 in China. The 15-day Chinese New Year celebration includes parades, fireworks and feasting with family. It will be the year of the Ox. Find all the signs of the Chinese Zodiac and the five elements in Treehouse Games. Then visit Treehouse Trivia to learn how to live a long life and a few insights into the journey of author J.K. Rowling.
